Home Sleep Study
What is a Sleep Study?
A sleep Study is an overnight recording of your sleep for the diagnosis and evaluation of sleep disorders. Sleep Studies can be performed either at home or in hospital.
Why have a Sleep Study?
Your Dentist has felt that due to your snoring, symptoms of tiredness or other medical conditions, it is appropriate to assess if you have a breathing disorder while you sleep.
What is involved?
A device is worn overnight and using sensors monitors:
- Breathing
- Oxygen levels
- Brain activity
- Cardiac activity
- Body movements
Once this overnight recording is made it can be analysed and the results are sent to your dentist.
What can be Diagnosed?
Home monitoring can diagnose snoring, obstructive sleep apnoea, periodic leg movement disorder or insomnia. The study can give valuable information and help the dentist understand what course of treatment is required.
Next Step
Once your Home Sleep Study is reported by a specialist sleep physician your dentist will discuss the results with you and advise you of your treatment options.
